Jury decides on six projects of the “Aktionsfonds City West”

On Wednesday, 9th April 2014 a district-wide jury voted on a variety of projects, which were applying for financial support by “Aktionsfonds City West”.  As a result all projects set up by local citizens, craftsmen or initiatives will receive support from the program “Aktive Zentren”.  
Aktionsfonds City West seeks to support local initiatives in the City West and to encourage general civic engagement in the neighborhood. Aktionsfonds City West in 2014 offers the opportunity to support small-scale activities that arise from your ideas and effort. For this purpose a total of 50.000 Euro is on hand for 2014. In February earlier this year, Aktives Zentrum City West were calling for projects to apply until mid-march.

In total, six individual projects were submitted. Now, all six projects can look forward to receive a funding by the program. Each project will be funded up to 50 percent of the total project costs. The projects will be implemented in 2014.

The Jury consisted of Angelika Schoettler (district mayor Tempelhof-Schöneberg), Reinhard Naumann (district mayor Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf), Sabine Zschache (IHK  Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf), Hauke ​​Dierks (IHK vor Ort Tempelhof-Schöneberg), Klaus-Jürgen Meier ( AG City e.V.), Heike Lehmann (Gebrüder Tonsor) and Christoph Michel (Axel Hotel Berlin).

Projects funded:

Verein Kudamm International e.V. receives a grand over 10,000 Euro for the implementation of the 2nd Inclusive Street Festival (2. Inklusives Straßenfest) at Uhlandstraße. Together with local craftsmen and neighbours of Uhlandstraße between Lietzenburgerstrasse and Kurfürstendamm, the initiative is planning a festival with a variety of cultural activities. The first festival in 2013 already received a big response from the public, so that the neighbourhood is looking forward to another promising event in 2014.

The congregation of Kaiser Wilhem Memorial Church is organizing a music festival to celebrate the 200th birthday of Adolphe Sax. Sax was a french instrument maker in the 19th Century. He invented the saxophon and received a patent in the year 1846. The music festival will consist of sound spots at Breitscheidplatz, a peace concert in the old church tower, a birthday concert inside the church and late night lounge music in the surrounding area and hotels. With this event the Church intends to honor the instrument and his inventor on November 6. The Event will be funded with 9,500 Euro.

Mike Palm of Copa Living and Stilwerk at Kantstraße is seeking to draw attention with a community campaign for an activity of the young network Designmeile Kanstraße taking place on a weekend in October this year. Concept and implementation for the advert-layout in the surrounding shops, including a flyer and free bike transport for the visitors of Designmeile are supported with 9,500 Euro.

Team Rooftop, an interdisciplinary study project of TU Berlin and University of the Arts wants to build a prototype of an innovative solar house on the roof of the main building of the University of the Arts. The study project consisting of students of the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Arts is taking part in the "Solar Decathlon 2014". Beneath, the project is discussing efficient housing and sustainable urban development. The construction of the rooftop house on the roof of the University of the Arts will be supported with 10,000 Euro by Aktionsfonds City West.

The architect and photographer Mila Hacke gets financial assistance over 1,000 euros for the production of a wall calendar for 2015. Focus of her work are architectural photos of the era of post-war modernism in the City West. The photographs of selected buildings in the City West are part of the photo exhibition ‘Nachkriegsmoderne. Architektur in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf’ which will be shown from 14th April to 31st August 2014 at Museum Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in the Villa Oppenheim.

As a sign of social diversity and tolerance the two initiatives Pink Schöneberg eV and MANEO are planning to light up the dome of U-Bahnhof Nollendorfplatz in the colours of the rainbow. Earlier, from 06.12.2013 to 02.06.2014, the initiatives already realized a temporary lighting made possible by support of numerous traders around. The initiatives will receive 10,000 euros for the long-term installation of light strips on the dome.
